Name: Welcome Tavern
Address: Hennel Lane, Lostock Hall
Originally opened as the Welcome Tavern this pub is now known as The Hunters and is a relatively modern estate pub dating back to around the 1970s situated just off the A6 roundabout on Hennel Lane near to the Capitol Centre.
The map from 1909 above shows Hennel Lane and Hennel Bridge in close proximity to Walton Hall (now demolished) before the area was redeveloped in the latter half of the 20th century to make way for the Capitol Centre and housing development.
It was definitely open at least in the 1970s, when it was a pub surrounded by fields rather than by a housing estate. I have a note that it was originally a Whitbread pub and that in the late 1970s it still had Duttons on its outside signs (I think the Duttons name was dropped about 1974/75). Also what I do remember is going to the pub and seeing parachutists being dropped to land in the neighbouring field. (Gordon Small 2022).
The Hunters is now a public house owned by Thwaite's brewery.

It must have been relatively new when I first saw it. I remember passing with my Dad in the car when I was a young boy. I can't ask him, as sadly he's not around anymore, but I am sure that we were on the way to the 'tip'.
I also have some memories of a group of sky-divers dropping into the fields in the area, and perhaps going for a pint there afterwards (them, not me - I would have only about 7 or 8). I could see them falling as little dots from the first floor back window of our house, which was some way away off just south of Brownedge Road, and then thankfully their chutes opened.

My first recollection is of it having the name of "The Welcome Inn". I think it probably became the 'The Welcome Tavern in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
