The Brown Cow  was only mentioned on one census record in 1861 and was almost certainly a short-term sideline of Thomas Higham and his family who farmed the land in this area for most of the 1800's.

On the census returns the property was located on Black Moor Road close to the junction with Meadow Lane on the Western edge of Mawdesley. From the map below it may have been Nook Farm but this is pure speculation.
