The Stocks Tavern is Parbold's second oldest pub and dates back to 1810 when it started life as the local Blacksmith's, the beer trade providing additional revenue. Throughout most of the 19th century it was the home of the Molyneux family, Elias being the earliest recorded landlord there, his father, John being a Blacksmith before him.

Mary Molyneux died in 1888 leaving Elias a widow to run the beer house alone until his own death in 1894. Following this his eldest son John with wife Ann took over but John too died only two years later in 1896 leaving Ann to run the pub until her son James succeeded her; he is listed on the 1924 directory below.

  1. i am a descendant of the molyneux family that moved into the stocks tavern. It is nice to see pictures of the tavern through the ages but would have liked to have seen the building as a blacksmiths forge.
