The Dog & Partridge has been a part of life for Charnock Richard residents since the 1840's and was originally the farm of the Barker family.

Listed landlords at the Inn were James Barker (1851-71), Roger Duckworth (1881), James Stocks (1884), William Barker (1887), George Porter (1891), John Sharratt (1901), Wilfrid Baxendale (1911), George Worthington (1918), William Foster (1921) and Thomas Ernest Middlehurst (1939).
