The above line drawing showing the remains of the end building that was the Inn taken from the above book by Jessica Lofthouse published in 1951.
The author also did a series of similar books covering the wider Lancashire and Cumbria areas, well worth a read for those interesting in their local history.
The photo and text above are taken from George Birtill's "Over the Five-Barred Gate". As can been seen on the recent photo below both cottages were been extended since the photo above was taken.
