Lord Nelson

Name: The Lord Nelson

Address: 126 (?), Market Street, Chorley

Market Street c.1940's - the National School can been seen at the end

The Lord Nelson appears on the 1861 Census when the publican was listed as William Southern. From it position on the census the pub was located on the east side of Market Street near to the Big Lamp and roughly opposite the White Bull. On the photo above the Lord Nelson was probably in one of the properties pictured on the corner of Market Street and Cheapside with Bibby on the shop sign, which have long since been demolished.

As the Lord nelson does not appear on any directories it seems likely to have been one of Chorley's many beer houses that came and went during the 1800's.
