The Bridge Inn, located on the south side of the Ribble Bridge was built in the early 1800s and remained a part of the local community until is closure in 2013 and subsequent demolition in January 2014 to be replaced by a children's nursery.

The next landlord for the Bridge Inn and one who was to stay for around 20 years was Prestonian, Samuel Garratt, the son of a draper who was brought up on Victoria Street.

Samuel married into licensing trade, his wife Jane Elizabeth North Snutch's father Samuel having been an Innkeeper, running the Black Bear in Warrington in the 1870s.
