Longridge - Red Lion Inn

Name: Red Lion Hotel

Address: King Street, Longridge

The Red Lion was built in 1795 and remained a public house well into the 20th century, although in more recent years it was converted to residential use but was a prominent Inn in the town in its day, adjacent to the Dog Inn at the top of Berry Lane for well over a century.

Listed landlords at the Red Lion Inn were George Dewhurst (1813-), Jane & Ellen Dewhurst (daughter) (-1849), Ellen Dewhurst (1849-), Christopher Parkinson (1852-), George Altham (1858-61), Richard Dewhurst (-1864), John Dewhurst (1864-), George Eastham (1869-81), Adam Parr (1889-94), Johnson Lord (1901) and James Bee (1911).

1828 Pigot's Directory Geo(rge) Dewhurst
The directory above suggest that George Dewhurst was at the Red Lion in Ribchester but I believe this is a error on the record as BMD and other records confirm the Dewhursts were living in Dilworth and this pub through the early 1800s.
