In 1906 the Wheat Sheaf avoided being referred for compensation and closure but this appears to have only been a temporary reprieve, as the property was being marketed for alternative uses in 1910 and no further records can be found of the Inn after this time.

Comparison of the 1910 and 1930 map below shows the Inn and neighbouring buildings on the north side of Kestor Lane at its junction with Market Place had been demolished and land cleared in the intervening years.
